Colossal Rise In Global Co2

Last few years have been the hottest in environmental history. This is due to the increase in the levels of the global Co2. This has become a matter of concern for environmentalists all over the world. The major factor to cause the rise in the temperatures is global warming and the emissions of greenhouse gases. These two are being researched by environment scientists to find ways to control them.

The global annual temperatures are now found to be comparatively warmer than they previously were. This change has been noticed from last 30 years. The rate of warming has tremendously increased. Possibly, the increase in Co2 emissions is thought to accelerate this rate.

In fact, due to the increased amount of Co2 emissions, the earth's surface temperature has also increased substantially. This causes devastating effects on the climate. Emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and the manufacture of cement are highly responsible for this.

Studies show that the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have reached up to 367 parts per million from 280 parts per million in the previous years. If predictions are to be believed, the Co2 content will become 970 ppm in the years to come. This ever increasing rate will, undoubtedly, prove very harmful.

Burning of fossil fuels, industrial waste and rapidly growing deforestation are the prime culprits of this crisis situation. Unless these factors are curtailed, the Co2 levels will keep on increasing. Not just air and land, but water bodies will also be affected adversely.

The sea level has also risen due to the melting of the polar glaciers. This is caused by an increase in the earth's near-surface temperature. This can be harmful for the coastal areas. Human industrial practices are mainly responsible for this rise.

The United States is ranked the first as a global warming polluter. Though its population is only 5% of the world's total population, it contributes approximately one fourth to the total Co2 emissions. Thus, the US government must make more efforts to control the global warming. Actions need to be taken and implemented. This can be done primarily by controlling the emissions of Co2 in the atmosphere.

Global warming is causing various changes, which are harmful and irreversible. We have to take immediate steps to reduce the levels of global Co2 in the atmosphere.Otherwise, our future generations would have to bear the consequences of our evil deeds.
